ADSNY is a non-profit organization that offers a variety of activities related to New York City’s great Art Deco treasures and the lifestyle and culture of New York during the Jazz Age.
Rosemary Novellino-Mearns & her husband Bill Mearns presented a talk celebrating Radio City Musical Hall – New York’s iconic Art Deco showcase – telling the incredible true story of how one dancer in 1978 motivated her colleagues and friends to save Radio City Music Hall from imminent demolition.
That dancer was Rosemary!
She was the Dance Captain of the legendary Radio City Music Hall Ballet Company during the 1970s. And her book, “Saving Radio City Music Hall: A Dancer’s True Story“:
“[T]ells the amazing story of how she motivated a small group of dedicated colleagues, friends, media and political allies to join forces, challenge the Rockefeller establishment and, against all odds, save ‘the Showplace of the Nation’.”
Her husband, soloist and composer William (Bill) Mearns, curated the rare films and photos for the on-screen portion of the presentation.
They fell in love at Radio City Music Hall when Bill joined the production as Captain of the Singing Company.
Thank you to Rosemary, Bill, and the Art Deco Society of New York! Our residents enjoyed the talk immensely.
Stay tuned for more great talks and events!
