We’ve seen some pretty great views at Waterside Plaza, but it’s going to be hard to top yesterday’s firsthand view of HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS Tom Hanks and Clint Eastwood filming a scene for their new movie on our very own promenade! (!!!) Read below for the full scoop!
Five-time Oscar winner, Clint Eastwood chose Waterside’s East River promenade to film a scene with Hanks, the star of his new biopic Sully about real-life hero Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger. (Side note: the film crew used our Community Center as their green room so remember next time you visit for an event, you could be sitting in Clint Eastwood’s empty chair!)
New Yorkers will remember Captain Sully as the pilot who made an unbelievable landing on the Hudson River in 2009 after both his engines failed, saving all 155 passengers on board, as well as averting countless casualties on land by steering away from densely populated Manhattan. The film focuses on this heroic landing commonly known as the “Miracle on the Hudson.”
While crew and Waterside residents looked on, the stars arrived on the set looking as cool as Sullenberger famously sounded during the legendary landing of US Airways Flight 1549. The two briefly discussed with the crew and got their scene in two takes like the pros they are!
Some of our residents report they were even able to meet the gracious star of the highly anticipated film, which also stars Laura Linney and Aaron Eckhart. Filming has just begun on the star-studded production so it’ll be awhile before we see our promenade grace the big screen, but until then, feast your eyes on more photos of the scene in action below!
