Family visiting during the holidays? Have some time off between Christmas and New Years? Here are five ideas for keeping visitors and yourself entertained post-Christmas.
Artists and Fleas at Chelsea Market
You’ve done the shopping for friends and family, now it’s time to focus on yourself. Williamsburg weekend favorite Artists and Fleas has hopped across the river for a pop-up at Chelsea Market. Come explore over 30 independent curators and makers of jewelry, art, design, home accessories, vintage clothing, and much more. Plus, it’s a great excuse to stock up on delicious food for your New Year’s party at any of Chelsea Market’s mouth-watering food shops. Got visitors? Pair with a walk across The Highline on a sunny day. Open 7 days a week through January 5 from 10:00AM-7PM and located at 75 Ninth Avenue / 88 Tenth Avenue.
A Comedy Show at The Stand
We could all use a laugh during this chilly time of year, and what better place to find one than your local comedy club, which just happens to have been named New York Magazine’s Best Comedy Club of The Year for 2013? They’ve got local up and comers plus established favorites like Judah Freidlander and Wyatt Cenac all through the holiday season. The Stand is located at 239 Third Avenue and open Sunday-Tuesday 11:30am-12:00am and Wednesday-Saturday 11:30am-2:00am. Visit thestandnyc.com for a full schedule.
Masterworks at the Rubin Museum
For a unique and relaxing museum experience, visit the Rubin Museum, which focuses on Himalayan art. Through January 13th, 2014, the museum presents Masterworks, an exhibit that brings together the greatest hits of the museum’s collection, an excellent primer on the art of the Himalayas. The Rubin’s K2 Friday Nights are also a great off the beaten path event for visiting friends. The museum is free from 6:00pm-10:00pm, there’s live music at 7:00pm, food and drink specials, and at 9:30, a movie. Visit rmanyc.org for a full schedule. The Rubin Museum is located at 150 West 17th Street.

Dance off that Christmas meal at the Bollywood Disco at Le Poisson Rouge. DJ Rekha of Basement Bhangra fame spins bhangra starting at 10pm and all night long. Visit lepoissonrouge.com for details.
