Ajna Dance Company was such a hit at last year’s summer shows, we had to bring them back!

What a swingin’ good time we had here with the George Gee Swing Orchestra!
While we usually hold the events on our plaza, this time the rain kept us indoors – but not from enjoying the great music!
Waterside is home to The British International School of New York and they welcomed us to their Dining Hall for the show.
We’re thrilled to have them at Waterside on July 25th – and look forward to a swingin’ good time! (Note: This event will take place rain or shine! If it rains, we have an indoor space to sway and swing in!)
George is the world’s only Chinese-American swing big bandleader, and, as he notes on his site, this provides him with a unique cross-cultural perspective and a keen interest in bridging differences “among all the people worldwide who enjoy this music and the vintage context.”
We asked George a few questions:
What’s going to happen at your Waterside show?
A lot of fun, swingin’ big band swing music!
What do you love about swing?
It’s got an infectious beat and a rhythm sure to make you move.
Tell us your favorite part of entertaining?
Seeing the smiles in the audiences and the dancers on the dance floor.
What’s special about your band?
Our band has a love of life and love of the music.
We’re a family of top NYC jazz musicians that play weekly at Time Square’s Swing 46 Jazz & Supper Club every Tuesday.
What motivates people to dance at your shows?
We play music with a good swingin’ beat!
We also play some familiar tunes, which is helpful. Guests will recognize: “Take The A Train” (the signature tune of the Duke Ellington orchestra), “This Can’t Be Love” (from “The Boys from Syracuse”), “Jumpin’ at the Woodside” (one of the Count Basie Orchestra’s signature tunes) and “Tuxedo Junction” (a No. 1 hit for Glenn Miller & His Orchestra).
What’s your goal when you perform?
To help make the world a little bit of a better place.
