Many of you may have already heard rumors of some disappointing news – that the traditional Macy’s fireworks on the East River are moving to the West Side. I am sad to say this is indeed true, we have confirmed with the Mayors Office that this year’s fireworks event will indeed be on the West Side. As a result, we will not be having our traditional large scale July 4th celebration at Waterside this year. More details on this to come.
On a positive note, however, the fireworks going west to the Hudson River are partly to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s exploration of the river that now bears his name. The process of planning next years fireworks will not begin until later in 2009, and we have high hopes for the return of the fireworks to our side of the island next year. I’ll also keep you updated on this as we learn more.
