We’re just a week away from the brand new season at Governors Island!
Beginning May 1st, “New Yorkers and visitors alike are invited to enjoy the Island’s open space with unparalleled views of New York Harbor, car-free recreational activities and an expansive calendar of events and public programs.”
What’s new this year? There’s expanded hours, new vendors, and new cultural programmers – including: The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) and the American Indian Community House.
Events include: Exciting musical performances, Bon Odori dances, The 10th Annual NYC Unicycle Festival, an urban farm, The Vendy Awards (for food vendors), The New York City Poetry Festival, and of course, the Jazz Age Lawn Party (in its 14th year!)
The Island provides “an easy and affordable escape to all New Yorkers right in the heart of the city”.
And from here at Waterside (also an urban retreat), Governors Island is only a ferry ride away! Take the E. 34th St. East River Ferry nearby, and see all the family fun options the Island offers with its 6 month season.
