We love ice cream at Waterside – so much so that we have a number of Community Center events geared to the tasty dairy dessert, including the upcoming Ice Cream Sundae Social.

If you want to try your hand at making ice cream or gelato, there’s a place right here in our Kips Bay neighborhood with courses that allow you become a “Gelato Chef”! Mia Chef Gelateria (at 379 Third Avenue).

Now, purists will exclaim, “Gelato and ice cream are different”, and while that is true (Gelato has more milk  and is denser), there should be no argument that they are both irresistible.

Even more so when made exactly the way you want it!

And Mia Chef Gelateria offers their gelato and ice cream workshops so you can do just that.

“In the long tradition of dreaming about ideal professions, Gelato Chef might fall pretty high on a lot of lists.  So… Do you have what it takes to be a gelato chef for a day? At the Mia Academy kitchen, you’ll learn about the ancient origins of gelato making and experience the process for yourself. And, of course, you’ll get to take home your creations at the end of the session.”

Classes are offered daily (weekdays & weekends) so you can try to become one of the Gelato greats at your convenience.
