Discussing an artwork on Twitter, he wrote:
Sculptor Dennis Valinsky’s installation was on display on our Plaza.
And dancers from the Celebration Group, which was started by Marilyn Wood, performed.
Rich was one of the dancers! (Pictured below. And above, performing a duet with Anita Feldman. Anita is also in the center of the first photo.)
The New York Times on June 4th, 1974 described Valinsky’s pieces as:
“giant, aerial constructions, of subtly tinted modacrylic fabric rimmed with rattan and intended, according to the sculptor, to give the effect of ‘wash drawings in space.”
“The splashiest of the works is called “Sundrop,” a 60‐foot cornucopia of bright yellow “gauze,” whose base is ringed with sky‐blue leaf forms attached to hickory boughs. It will sway, suspended between two 40‐story apartment towers, over clumps of greenery near the river’s edge, some 10 to 12 feet above the heads of viewers.”
Do any of you remember this?
