Go for the Day: St. George Day

This Saturday is the perfect time to have a day trip to Staten Island: To St. George Day. It takes place on Earth Day – and is inspired by the day’s focus on taking care of the plant – and each other.

This event re-invents the story of St. George and the Dragon. Instead of slaying him, they talk, work things out and become allies.

St. George Day is a unique festival that promotes peaceful problem solving, communal pride, and sharing and respecting our natural resources as essential elements to a strong and sustainable community. Through art, earth day activities, and the Dragon Parade, we work to facilitate strong community connections to Tompkinsville Park.

In that vein, this festival, in its 11th year, offers a slew of collaborative and entertaining activities, including arts arts and crafts for kids, hula hooping, a puppet show, artists, live music and dance, storytelling – and a dragon parade.

The festival is held in Tompkinsville Park on Little Bay Street, from 11am to 5pm.

See the line up on SILive  – and go to Mommy Poppins for more ideas for exploring St. George while you’re there.
