Bring your family to these museums to excite their tastebuds – as well as their cerebrums.
Open noon to 6pm, Friday to Sunday, this museum in Williamsburg has exhibits you can eat! Can you say that about the Guggenheim?
Their goal is “to show how exciting it is to learn about the culture, history, science, production, and commerce of food and drink”.
Showing now: “Chow: Making the Chinese American Restaurant” which examines the nearly 170-year history of Chinese American restaurants and its evolution, as well as cultural identity, and what it means to be American. Learn how Chinese Americans persevered despite harsh circumstances and created one of America’s most beloved cuisines.
Experience menus through the decades, as well as chef-designed tastings. You can also: See live demos of a 1,500 pound fortune cookie machine which contains messages of goodwill from around the world – and even submit your own message via Project Fortune.

Choco-Story New York, Chocolate Museum and Experience with Jacques Torres (350 Hudson Street)

Jacques Torres (of the renowned chocolate factory and store, Jacques Torres Chocolate) is known as “Mr Chocolate“. The store prides itself on purity: Confections made with no preservatives, artificial flavorings or essential oils. And he can school you on chocolate – because knows his stuff! In addition to being the master of his store, he’s a Master Pastry Chef, and in 1986, became the youngest pastry chef in history to earn the prestigious Meilleur Ouvrier de France (Best Craftsman of France) medal in pastry. He’s also the Dean of Pastry Arts at the International Culinary Center, was the Executive Pastry Chef at Le Cirque for 12 years, is the author of three cookbooks – and the host of a number of series on Food Network and PBS.
His Chocolate Museum is New York’s first ever chocolate museum!
The 5,000 sq. foot museum (open daily from 10am to 5pm) offers: “a self-guided tour of original artifacts, nine premium tastings, original Mayan hot chocolate freshly ground by hand, and a bon-bon making demonstration”. Moreover, “visitors will also be able to learn about the journey of the cacao tree from the Amazonian rainforest and the origins of the chocolate we eat today.”
And if that doesn’t already sound as though it’s got plenty of kid-appeal, there’s also a kids’ corner!
